Though I'm still working on pinpointing my personal style, as mentioned last week, one thing I know is that I love is cute and somewhat quirky button-up collared shirts. Whether they have a cat collar, a pink bow, or a collar with red fingernailed hands, I love them all.
I came across this shirt on Pinterest a few months ago and couldn't keep my eyes off it (pun intended.) Unfortunately for me, it was a little out of my price range for a blouse, but also sold out. I decided if I couldn't buy it, I would DIY it!
To make this, I started with a white button-up top from ASOS. I cut out the white buttons and hand-sewed in new light blue buttons from Jo-Ann. To make the eyes, I used a small paintbrush and black acrylic paint. I let the paint fully dry and then used an iron to heat-set it. In full disclosure, I haven't washed it yet (I was too excited to share it here), but I'm confident that heat-setting the paint will help it hold up in the wash. We used this technique with our cloth napkins and they've held up great!
I'm so happy with the way this turned out (and can't wait to wear it when it's not 15 degrees outside!) I love a button-up collared shirt, but the addition of the eyes adds the perfect amount of fun and quirk. What do you guys think of it? Share in the comments below!
