Vintage Ladder & Hanging Air Plants

The other day I shared with you our super cute DIY geometric mobiles to hang all of our little air plant babies! Maybe you've been wondering, "But WHERE are they hanging?" Well today is your lucky day because I'm finally going to show you!

We hung our mobiles from this old, super tall, wooden ladder in our dining room. I LOVE IT. The story behind the ladder goes like this: The house next door was being gutted for renovation. The ladder came from this house and made it's way to our front porch for several months. Every day I looked at that ladder longingly and told Nick how much I wanted it. He always said, "What could you possibly want it for?" and I always responded with "I don't know, but I love it and we may want it someday and it'll be gone!" Then one afternoon I came home and there it was! In my apartment! That handsome fella I call my boyfriend asked our landlord if we could have it and now it's MINE, ALL MINE.

It's a little worse for wear in some places, but I haven't yet decided if I want to try to clean it up. For now, I kind of like the vintage, rustic vibe it has. We fastened the mobiles to the ladder rungs with some fishing line, popped the plants into their places, and that was it!

If you're curious about air plants, A Beautiful Mess has a great post about them here. We purchased our plants from The Air Plant Shop on Amazon. To be honest, right now we're still kind of in the experimental phase to see if these plants can survive in their current home. Air plants like bright indirect light, and our apartment is rather dark, so some plants are starting to look a little dry. Others look great, so maybe it varies slightly by plant. Either way, I'm trying really hard to be a good plant mom!

I'm so happy with this addition to our dining room. It really makes this room feel complete, which after 2+ years of living in this apartment is certainly a relief. Speaking of the dining room, we may have a complete room tour ready to show you later this month... stay tuned!
